Greek recipes: Tzatziki

A bowl of tzatziki with cucumber pieces on top Tzatziki is one of those recipes that is so ridiculously easy to make, I don’t know if I would bother buying a packaged version from the supermarket.  It also tastes better and is healthier!

Tzatziki is also one of those dips or sauces that it goes with so much.  Especially lamb and grilled chicken.  A match made in heaven.  Perfect for my latest Greek obsession during this summer.

  • 250 gr Greek yoghurt (no flavouring)
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, cut finely
  • 1 small cucumber
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tsp dill
  • good pinch salt

Grate the cucumber and mix in a pinch of salt.  Place in a sieve over a bowl and await for all the water to drain out of the cucumber.

In bowl, mix all the ingredients, including the drained cucumber.  Check the taste – as you may wish to add more garlic / salt / vinegar to your taste.

Cover and store the tzatziki in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
